Wolves Disability FC and Aston Villa Ability Counts Under-16 teams provided a fantastic and heart-warming display of half term entertainment during Wolves Foundation’s Annual Focus Fixture at Molineux on Friday night.

The two sets of players defied the awful weather conditions to produce a great and competitive game played in a really sporting manner, roared on by both sets of fans who created a brilliant atmosphere.

A last gasp winner from Wolves’ striker Hugh ultimately secured a 1-0 win but, in truth, for the participants the experience was just as important as any final result.

The half time game was once again one of the key highlights of the Foundation fixture, which takes place every season to raise funds and awareness for the club’s official charity.

The match was also an opportunity to highlight Rare Disease Day, supported by Alexion UK, a partner of Wolves Disability FC and Wolves Wishes, with the Wolves’ players wearing warm-up t-shirts to promote such an important cause.

“Friday night was a really fantastic experience for everyone connected with Wolves, and not just because of the brilliant result for the first team,” said Kieron Ansell, head of business development at Wolves Foundation.

“The Disability Half Time fixture was so well received by both Wolves and Aston Villa supporters, creating an incredible atmosphere which the players and staff will never forget.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those players, so to experience that level of support was so heartwarming to see.

“We are also hugely grateful to both Disability FC sponsors Alexion and Nuffield Health, and also Wolves’ official sleeve partner JD, who helped support the fixture.

“And also, to the club, for allowing the Foundation the opportunity to showcase the huge range and impact of our work across the community via the annual Focus Fixture.

“We will continue to work closely together to ensure that we support residents of Wolverhampton across all the different areas of our five-year strategy.”

As well as the players wearing the Rare Disease warm-up shirts, their warm-up jackets were embroidered with the Foundation fixture crest and will be signed and auctioned off to raise funds for the charity. Keep an eye on the Wolves App for news of the auction.

A Silent Auction was also held across corporate areas at Friday night’s fixture. Huge thanks to all supporters who made a bid.
