Wolves’ legend Steve Daley is among the lived experience panel for a Cancer Awareness Evening being organised by Wolves Foundation.

Daley, who underwent surgery and treatment following a diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2022, is part of an evening delivered by the Head 4 Health project where guests can connect and meet with local organisations to explore practices and support that enhance cancer awareness.

Open to all, the event takes place from 5.30pm-7.30pm this Wednesday (March 4th) in the North Bank Bar.

Daley has been involved with several different organisations and charities in helping raise awareness of the importance of symptoms and receiving early diagnoses.

“It was a huge shock when I first got told I had cancer, but, sadly as we know, it is indiscriminate and can happen to anyone,” says Daley, who scored 43 goals from 244 appearances for Wolves between 1971 and 1979.

“We probably all think we are invincible, especially if we think we have kept ourselves in decent shape, but you never know what is around the corner.

“What I try and say to people from my experience is that if you have any sort of symptoms, or something just doesn’t feel right, make sure you go and get it checked out.

“The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances of recovery, and I have to say the NHS were absolutely brilliant with me right the way through the process.

“I try and help raise awareness of what happened to me just incase it helps other people, and am looking forward to meeting people at this event at Molineux.”

Many different groups and organisations will be in attendance at the event who can offer advice and guidance to anyone with any questions.

This includes Foundation Pack Patrons Nuffield Health, who will carry out free health checks, MacMillan Cancer Support, NHS Living Beyond Cancer Support and Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.

Visitors can arrive at 5.30pm to ensure they don’t miss any of the event but it is also being run on a drop-in basis so is open at any time up until 7.30pm.
