Wolves Foundation have opened a new weekly Skills Hub called Foundation Futures, aiming to help more people into work and support economic prosperity and employment.

Working in partnership with the Department of Work & Pensions, Foundation staff will work with residents of the city to offer various support in an open and positive environment.

The various strands to the project aiming to tackle youth and adult unemployment include:

  • The team from Building Brighter Futures based in the hub for the duration offering employment, mentoring and financial wellbeing support.
  • A focus on young people with high impact health conditions who have capability to work.
  • Looking at support for customers who are economically inactive and have disengaged from the Jobcentre.
  • Support for all youth customers, regardless of circumstances. Every youth customer will have at least one intervention at the Wolves Youth Hub and support can be identified there with Work Coach and Wolves Foundation.
  • Arranging for employers from the local area to join each week to talk to participants and provide opportunities.
  • Developing a local jobs board for all attendees to access as part of their support back into work.

There will also be the opportunity for participants, after their mentoring with a DWP work coach, to receive mentoring support from Foundation staff via a sporting activity such as darts, pool or basketball.

The City of Wolverhampton Council also send staff to provide employment and work experience support.

“One of the key pillars of our recently announced five-year strategy covers economic prosperity and employment, equipping local people with essential workplace skills and helping to match talent with opportunity,” says Jonathan Warburton, the Foundation’s head of programmes for education, employability and youth engagement.

“This also tallies with our youth engagement programme, and helping our participants to find the right pathways to lead to training and employment.

“Working with the DWP and City of Wolverhampton Council, our new Foundation Futures project will feature a Skills Hub with young people able to access guidance and support from several different agencies.

“We have found with our Building Brighter Futures programme, that using the power of the Wolves badge and opportunity to come to Molineux can really open doors and break down barriers in working with participants.

“Young people can come along to Foundation Futures with complete confidence that they are accessing a relaxed and supportive environment to help them with the next stage of their career.”

Foundation Futures takes place every Tuesday, from 10am to 4pm in the North Bank Bar at Molineux. Participants can turn up on the day or book a spot by emailing Sarah-LouiseEvans@wolves.co.uk or ollielocker@wolves.co.uk.
